Geely EX5 EM-I

Geely is gearing up to bring a new plug-in hybrid model to the Philippine market, with the EX5 EM-I expected to arrive within the first quarter of the year. The model has not yet been formally unveiled. Still, camouflaged units have already been spotted at ports and customs facilities, suggesting that initial shipments are now in the country ahead of its official debut.

While local specifications have yet to be confirmed, as we mentioned earlier, the EX5 EM-I is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle combining electric propulsion with the range of internal combustion. This setup allows for short daily commutes on electric power, while still offering extended range when charging access is limited.

Positioned in the compact crossover segment, the EX5 EM-I enters a segment where buyers are in the middle of a shift towards electrification. Plug-in hybrids continue to appeal to urban drivers, particularly in areas like Metro Manila, where traffic conditions, route variability, and infrastructure limitations can make full reliance on charging more challenging. Not to mention the number of people vying for a charging spot at any given moment.

The upcoming model aligns with Geely’s broader global strategy of offering multiple powertrain options, including battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and traditional internal combustion models. According to the company, this approach is intended to better match real-world driving habits across different markets.

The EX5 EM-I’s arrival also forms part of Geely’s ongoing product rollout following its shift to direct operations in the Philippines. The brand has previously indicated that more new models across various segments and powertrains are planned as it continues to rebuild and expand its local lineup. With its expected first-quarter launch, the EX5 EM-I will be the most recent product Geely has to offer in its growing lineup of electric and hybrid vehicles.
