Teased back in September, the fifth-generation Emgrand nears its official launch as it enters the pre-sale in China. Before the official launch happens, let’s take a look at what’s new in the latest iteration of the Emgrand.
Built on the BMA Evo global modular architecture, the new Emgrand features a longer wheelbase, revised proportions, and updated powertrain options that are said to improve both comfort and performance.
The 2026 Emgrand measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a 2,755 mm wheelbase. Compared with the outgoing fourth-generation model, which measured 4,638 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, and 1,460 mm high with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, the new version is larger in every dimension and offers more interior space.
At the front, the redesigned sedan features a polygonal waterfall-style grille with 12 vertical slats. The grille now appears more prominently compared to the outgoing Emgrand’s more tightly packed grille. The new headlights have a sleeker shape and provide an illumination range of more than 170 meters, improving visibility during nighttime driving.
Inside, Geely has reimagined the cabin with a new dashboard layout that creates a modern, high-tech atmosphere. A 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster is paired with a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen running the Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit system. The setup includes voice control, Flyme Link, Carlink, HUAWEI HiCar integration, and full-screen gesture operation. The center console also includes 50W wireless phone charging and retains a few physical buttons for convenience.
Under the hood, the 2026 Emgrand sports a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 178 hp and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. This powertrain setup can get the 2026 Emgrand up to a claimed top speed of 200 km/h. The previous generation’s naturally aspirated engine is carried over. This mill produces 118 hp and 150 Nm of torque and comes paired with a CVT.
It may take some time before the new Emgrand reaches international markets, but with the fourth-generation model still on sale in the Philippines, there is a strong possibility that the next-generation Emgrand will arrive locally in the near future.
