Last year, Mitsubishi officially returned to the subcompact crossover segment with the launch of the XForce crossover. This year, the brand is expanding the XForce nameplate into hybrid territory.
Earlier in the year, a camouflaged XForce prototype sporting blacked-out wheels was spotted in Thailand, sparking speculation that it could be the electrified version of the five-seater crossover. In terms of specs though, while the internal combustion engine XForce shares the 4A91 engine with the Xpander, reports suggest the XForce HEV may feature a different hybrid powertrain than the e:Motion hybrid system used in the Xpander HEV.
Just in case this report is wrong though, you should know that the e:Motion powertrain features a 1.6-liter Atkinson Cycle engine paired with a 1.1kWh battery and a single electric motor. In the Xpander e:Motion, this setup delivers a total system output of 114 hp and 255 Nm of torque.
Speaking of reports, automotive journos in Thailand suggest that the world premiere date for the XForce hybrid has been set. According to automotive websites Autolifethailand and Headlightmag, the model is scheduled to debut on March 20, 2025. This launch date is set a few days before the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show first opens its doors. Coincidence? Probably not.
According to Autolifethailand, the XForce e:Motion will come fully equipped with advanced driver assistance systems and other safety features. More notably, the publication reports that Mitsubishi aims to price the model affordably.
With hybrids gaining popularity in the Philippines and brands like Nissan, Toyota, BYD, and GWM offering at least one hybrid model, Mitsubishi will likely want to join the competition. However, it remains unclear whether the brand will introduce the hybrid Xpander or the XForce first. Hopefully, we’ll have an answer soon.
