MG Cyberster Concept

You probably know MG nowadays as an automotive company that makes sensible feature-packed passenger cars and crossovers, but back in the day, they were famous for building sports cars. Tracing its origins back to 1924, MG has released a plethora of sports cars to compete in various races and to suit different lifestyles. Models such as the MGB Roadster to the MG TF Roadster have made their mark in the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world. It’s been years since the last MG sportscar, but this time we are finally getting a glimpse of what the next-generation MG sports cars could look like with official teaser photos of the Cyberster.

With the production version set to be unveiled during the Shanghai Auto Show, the MG Cyberster concept marks the first time that MG will be dabbling back into its roots since the MG TF was released in 2011.

The Cyberster is designed by the MG Advanced Design Center in London, and is a two-door, two-seater sports car that takes a number of its styling cues from the classic MGB roadster. It features classic round headlights which MG says are interactive “Magic Eye” headlights when switched on. The grille features large openings that serve as an air duct to direct airflow around the vehicle, and its body is designed to enhance aerodynamic performance. Taillamps are integrated flat into the body to accentuate more of the design and lines of the vehicle.

Of course, with the Cyberster being a sports car, it also has figures to back its looks. It features an all-electric powertrain that can deliver a zero to 100 kph time of just under three seconds, and 800 km of range. Horsepower and torque figures are still kept under wraps as of the time of writing.

On the inside, the Cyberster adopts a driver-centric layout that separates the driver and the passenger. The cockpit features a large LED digital cluster that features all the key information about the vehicle. MG says that this interior philosophy used along with its tech and materials is called “digital fibre” which offers a minimalist design that is focused more on the driver and driving experience.

Fingers crossed, that MG will actually put the Cyberster in production to inject the brand with much more excitement than their current offerings in the market.
