It's almost that time of year where the automobile industry goes into a head-to-head battle of brand supremacy. Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI) will hold their 12th annual testing season in Pampanga this October.
With the regulars on the list, what are the brands that will vie for the title of Car of the Year/Truck of the Year Philippines this year?
The regulars like Foton, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volvo are sure to be present on the competition. While 2nd timers like BAIC, BYD, Tata, Nissan, and Volkswagen are also to join again this year. With the wide variety of features that these brands have to offer, the match-ups will certainly be interesting.
After invading our shores, Aston Martin Philippines will be entering the arena for the first time this year with their luxurious and powerful model lineup. Unfortunately, we won't be seeing the James Bond car yet but we're pretty excited on what they will have to offer.
Another rookie this year are the Lotus cars. These Italian masterpieces are sure to provide intense competition with their lineup of compact super cars under the coupe and roadster categories.
Rolls-Royce is also set to challenge the other brands on their 2nd bid. After winning the Ultra-luxury segment last year, we're certain that they are ready to set the pace and contend for the title again.
Ford will definitely be present after a lot of new releases this year. As the incumbent titleholder of the Truck of the Year Philippines for 2 consecutive years (2012-2013 and 2013-2014), we're really excited to see if they could still defend the crown.
And of course, who wouldn't watch out for the Mini's? Winning the Car of the Year Philippines title last year won't stop them from coming back. We're sure that they have something up their sleeves and we're more than stoked to find that out.
The first testing date will be on October 10, 2015 and will be held at the Fontana Hot Spring Leisure Parks & Casino. Two kinds of testing will be done, the Qualitative which is more on the car’s performance while the Quantitative is more on the comfort and features of the car. There will be predetermined routes inside the Clark Freeport Zone for the quantitative testing. The results will be concluded on November 13 with a golf tournament and awarding ceremony. This will coincide with the Fontana Clark Auto Motorama 2015 to be held from November 13 to 15, 2015.
The 2015 Car of the Year – Philippines is made possible by event partners Fontana Hot Spring Leisure Parks & Casino, and R. G. Manabat & Co. / KPMG, and sponsors Bose, Air Asia, HitchPro, the Manila International Auto Show, Worldbex Services International, Manila North Tollways Corporation, North Luzon Expressway, Sonax, Ultra Modular Concepts, Inc. (UMCI), Romac Group of Companies, Columbia Sportswear, SpeedLab, and LG Electronics.
