GWM Philippines launches the all-new 2026 Haval H9

The full-size SUV market is a segment with major names in it, and as such, attempting to enter this competitive segment requires more than just a flashy exterior and extravagance. No, it requires posh, premium interiors, a beefy engine, and most importantly, capability on any road surface.

GWM’s answer to that is the Haval H9, the brand’s full-sized SUV offering and one that’s just launched today. We first saw the Haval H9 back at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), so we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from their latest release.

Starting of course with the exterior, the Haval H9 carries a design that’s similar to another GWM SUV, the Tank 300. Thanks to the larger dimensions, the Haval H9 is an imposing figure on the road, further complemented by the large horizontal grille, round headlights, and robust bumper. At the sides, the SUV is much simpler in design, but it still manages to convey its size through its large wheels, doors, and chunky, square wing mirrors. 

At the back, the Haval H9’s design is clean and simple. Round LED taillights flank the tailgate, with the door handles for the swing-out rear door placed on the left-hand side. Don’t mistake the square cargo box on the rear door for the spare wheel carrier; the Haval H9’s spare wheel is located underneath the SUV. 

Moving inside, the rugged exterior of the Haval H9 is blended with some luxurious touches, similar to what we’ve seen on the Tank 300, but with the addition of a third row of seats. Up front, the H9 features a leather-wrapped steering wheel fitted with integrated controls, paired with tilt and telescopic adjustment. Behind it sits a 10.25-inch TFT colored instrument cluster. 

The driver’s seat comes with eight-way electric adjustment with four-way electric lumbar support. The front passenger isn’t left out either, with 4-way manual adjustment and access to cooling vents integrated into the center console—an especially welcome touch in tropical countries like ours. Soft-touch materials are mixed with tough plastics inside the Haval H9. In addition, brown leather upholstery contrasts with the black interior for a more premium touch.

At the center of the dash is a large 14.6-inch touchscreen serving as the infotainment system. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth connectivity. This system is then complemented by eight speakers placed throughout the cabin.

Second-row passengers benefit from dedicated rear air-conditioning vents, positioned both on the roof and lower sections for balanced airflow. Other toys back here include cup holders on the center armrest, bottle holders by the doors, and dedicated air controls for the rear passengers. 

The beating heart of the Haval H9 is a familiar engine similar to the one powering the updated Cannon pickup truck. The engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel developing 183 hp and 480 Nm of torque paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via GWM’s four-wheel drive system, which is also equipped with torque on demand and a 4Low mode. Supporting the rugged SUV is a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link non-independent suspension at the rear. Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs all around.
