Suzuki Philippines has just officially launched its latest contenders in the subcompact sedan and hatchback segments with the all-new Dzire and Swift. Held at Marriott Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, Suzuki’s newest products offer a host of modern features as well as provide updates on technology and safety highlights.
Both vehicles ride on a new generation Suzuki platform called HEARTECT, a continuous frame that is the result of an advanced layout in components and revisions to the underbody that creates a light yet rigid body. Pedestrian safety is also increased thanks to Total Effective Control Technology as the frame is designed to absorb and mitigate injury. Dual airbags are also standard across the new range as is ABS (antilock braking system), and EBD (electronic brake distribution).
The all-new Suzuki Dzire subcompact five-seater sedan features an updated look, and is wider and lower than the model it replaces. The two trim levels (GL and GL+) offer a 1.2L engine that’s good for 82 hp and 113 Nm of torque. The main difference between the two is the transmission; GL gets a 5-speed Manual and the GL+ runs of Suzuki’s new five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS). AGS is essentially an automated manual transmission that operates a clutch at different shift points. The top trim (GL+) also gets a seven-inch multimedia system.
The all-new Swift gets a revamped design as well, creating a sportier stance and distinctive trim pieces. Two variants are also available, GL and GLX, with the GLX getting LED lighting, parking sensors, a back up camera, and electric folding mirrors. The GL gets a seven-inch multimedia system, while the GLX gets a bump up to eight inches. It features a a 1.2L engine similar to the Dzire with 82 hp and 113 Nm of torque, except it is mated to a choice of a five-speed manual (GL) or a continuously variable transmission (CVT for GL and GLX) for a combination of good performance and fuel economy. The Swift gets a bump in cargo space to by adding 54L despite its compact dimensions.
The 2019 Dzire will be on sale for P638,000 for the GL, and P698,000 for the GL+. The 2019 Swift, in its introductory price, will be offered for P755,000 for the GL and P799,000 for the GL with CVT, and the GLX with CVT is at P899,000.
The Swift is available in Speedy Blue Metallic, Fervent Red, Pure White Pearl, Premium Silver Metallic, Mineral Gray Metallic, and Super Black Pearl. On the other hand, the Dzire can be had in Premium Arctic White, Metallic Silky Silver, Premium Midnight Black, Premium Oxford Blue, Premium Sherwood Brown, and Metallic Magma Gray.
