Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) is molding the Filipinos of tomorrow through its pilot educational aid program, done in collaboration with Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI), the Pasig City Government, Quezon City Government, and the Department of Education Taguig City and Pateros (DepEd TAPAT).
Under the "Hyundai Accelerate" initiative, 40 students from DBTI, Pasig, Quezon City, Taguig, and Pateros were selected to participate in an eight-month classroom-based practical course, followed by a four-month On-the-Job Training (OJT) at designated Hyundai Service Centers across Metro Manila. The program provides training in essential vehicle inspection, diagnosis, and repair, giving students hands-on experience in automotive technology.
After completing the classroom courses, the program’s top nine performing students were selected to attend specialized training at the Hyundai Global Learning Center (GLC) in Cheonan, South Korea, sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company. Among those chosen for the immersion program were Junje Aga Ganotice from Hyundai Quezon Ave, Bensar Ali Mindo, Jefer Jay Oboy, Raheem Jebrael Lasola from Hyundai Shaw, Rovielyn Gutierrez and Mar Janlouie Hernandez from Hyundai Commonwealth, Rhaquim Nuhj Musa from Hyundai Alabang, Kenneth Samortin from Hyundai Cainta, and John Michael Niegas from Hyundai E. Rodriguez. The group was accompanied by their school adviser, Mr. Jeffrey Andrada, and HMPH Technical Trainer, Mr. Primo Franco Lanorio.
From September 2 to 6, these top students participated in a prestigious hands-on training program focused on basic electric vehicle (EV) safety and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technology. Building on their knowledge from their initial On-the-Job Training (OJT), they gained deeper insights into these cutting-edge automotive technologies.
“HMPH is proud to empower future automotive technicians through Hyundai Accelerate. We believe this program represents our vision, which is“Progress for Humanity”, as well as our commitment to shaping the next generation of skilled automotive professionals in the Philippines. We are confident that this program will equip our students with the skills to set them apart in the field. As we bridge the gap between the automotive industry and education, HMPH is thrilled to be a partner for Filipinos, be it on the road, or in the classroom.”
“I was really inspired, especially when we were in Hyundai GLC. It was our first time travelling to another country, and it was my first time studying cars. I realized that there were still a lot of things I don’t know about the field. But in the short period of time we spent in GLC, I learned a lot about automotive industry.”, shared Mr. Louie Hernandez, who is currently completing his OJT at Hyundai Commonwealth.
Ms. Rovielyn Gutierrez, also training at Hyundai Commonwealth, added, “The trip was really memorable for me. I was even more inspired as this is my first time handling electric vehicles. I was very intrigued by the advanced technology and it encouraged me to further study EVs. I see myself working as an automotive mechanic and pursuing my studies in the automotive industry especially since I have been studying this since high school.”
The first batch of Hyundai Accelerate scholars is scheduled to graduate in November 2024. HMPH plans to continue the program and will select its second batch of scholars in the upcoming school year. Hopefully, the experience of the HMPH’s top scholars will inspire a new generation of students to pursue a career in the automotive industry.
