When the FL5 Honda Civic Type R hit the local showrooms on January 19, 2023, as much excitement as there was in the launch of Honda’s next high-performance vehicle, people were predictably disappointed that only 40 units were brought to the Philippines in the initial launch. 39 Type R’s were sold to the public while Honda kept one as a demo car.
The Honda Type R is a hot commodity here in the country, by now you would have spotted a number of FL5 Type R’s on the second-hand market with an inflated price tag. The highest price we’ve seen online on sites like the Facebook marketplace is about P5,800,000 knocking on the door of P6,000,000. Suffice it to say, if you desperately want the brand new Civic Type R, you’ll have to bleed a huge amount of money just to get one.
The people over at Auto Industriya have good news for those who wish to buy the new FL5 Type R. In their interview with Honda Cars Philippines president Masahiko Nakamura, Nakamura confirmed that Honda Philippines is readying a second batch of FL5 Civic Type R’s for the Philippines. In addition, Honda’s president says that this batch will have around 80 units, double what Honda Philippines had during its initial launch.
In the interview, Auto Industriya was not given specific dates as to when the batch would arrive but was told that it will arrive sometime this year. The difference this time around is that, unlike the initial batch, the second batch of FL5 Civic Type R’s will not have the blind spot warning system. The reason provided to AutoIndustriya was that there is a shortage of the part in question, rather than suspend production, Honda opted to continue assembly without it.
Aside from the blind spot warning system being removed, the rest of the features on the Honda Civic Type R FL5 will be much the same. If you missed out on the first wave of Type R’s back in January, be on the lookout for when Honda Cars Philippines brings in the second batch of units.
