The Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland is a melting pot of the world’s most anticipated car and automotive tech launches. And for its 86th year, Honda joined in and unveiled the prototype version of their all-new 10th generation Civic hatchback.
Designed and developed at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM), the Japanese automaker boldly claimed that this is their “sportiest Civic ever.” But that daring one-liner has a strong foundation as these photos show. We honestly hope that by the time the production phase goes full-swing, none (or at least less) of these design elements would be altered because as it is, the car looks ready for action.
Take a look at the car’s curvaceous front end for example. Aside from the sleeker grille and LED lighting fixtures, the lower part of the bumper is also dominated by huge air intakes. In addition, the body overhang was shortened to highlight these design touches.
The side profile, on the other hand, has this character line that connects the door handles to the tip of the unique C-shaped tail lights. Below that is another character line that highlights the car’s long wheelbase and forward leaning stance.
And as for the rear end, the same aggressive theme up front is also reflected. That center-mounted twin exhaust does complete the overall upbeat design.
Furthermore, Honda also revealed the car’s dimension figures. They said that it’s 30 mm wider, 20 mm lower, and 130 mm longer than the current model. They’ve also increased the size and width of the wheels and tires to accentuate the low and wide stance.
On the flip side, they didn’t mention any concrete details regarding its other specs, especially the powertrain. But we can guess that it may have the same 1.5L turbo engine and Earth Dreams CVT transmission found in the sedan version.
Initially, the all-new Honda Civic hatchback will be available in Europe early next year. But the brand clarified that they’ll soon expand its reach globally. Hopefully, it reaches our shores too. While that may seem like a long shot at the moment, keep in mind that Honda Cars Phiilppines Inc. (HCPI) will debut the sedan version real soon, so don’t miss it.
