Honda Motor Co., Ltd. revealed the 5th generation of their compact SUV – the 2017 CR-V. It’s built from ground up; equipped with high-tech features, bigger interior space, and a new turbocharged power plant under its hood.
The all-new CR-V features an overall aggressive exterior design. Its front fascia comes with a more muscular hood than the outgoing model and a redesigned wing-shaped headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The fender flairs are also prominent upfront, giving the car a fierce demeanor. It’s also fitted with Active Shutter Grilles for improved aerodynamics, plus a narrower A-pillar for better visibility.
In profile, the all-new CR-V is still a reminiscent of its predecessor with its shape and character lines. However, its restyled 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels (depending on the variant) match the sharp taillights, which complements the rear spoiler, silver roof rails, and shark fin antenna for that sporty appeal.
Moreover, the rear end has been completely redesigned with a bolder taillight shape and a more chiseled tailgate, which is a great departure from the 4th generation CR-V. Speaking of tailgate, it’s now foot activated, allowing you to open and close without using your hands.
Aside from the exterior changes, the all-new CR-V has been revamped inside as well. It now has a more spacious cabin and rear seat legroom, which Honda claims to be top-in-class. The dashboard also features a soft-touch instrument panel for the dual-zone climate control, while the power seats gets new stitched design.
In addition, the all-new CR-V’s head unit is now a 7-inch Touchscreen Display Audio Interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrations. It’s also equipped with a Satellite-Linked Navigation System that was developed by Garmin.
The most exciting part of the all-new CR-V can be found under its hood. The higher variants will receive a first for CR-V – a 1.5L DOHC, direct-injected, turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine that can churn out 190 hp. The other variants will be powered by the 2.4L i-VTEC engine. Both types are mated to a sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT) with Honda G-Shift control logic.
To match the power inside the bonnet, the all-new CR-V and its Honda Sensing is geared with advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. This includes Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and pedestrian sensing capability, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control with low-speed follow and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS).
New features are also added such as Blind Spot Information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM), and Auto High Beam (HSS) headlights.
The all-new CR-V will be available in the US showrooms by the end of the year. More information about its engine specs will be revealed as it nears its official launch, which they haven’t disclosed any specific date yet. Additionally, we have yet to know if and when will Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. bring the 5th generation CR-V to our shores.
