GAC Motor Philippines may soon expand its lineup with another hybrid MPV. After launching the Emkoo Hybrid, the brand has been quiet in 2025 when it comes to new model rollouts. The plug-in hybrid version of the M8 was previewed at the Manila International Auto Show earlier this year, but no launch date has been confirmed yet.
As reported by AutoIndustriya, a new model called the GAC E8 HEV has been spotted in government documents. This could be GAC’s next hybrid vehicle for the local market. While it might sound like a hybrid version of the M6 Pro, the E8 is actually a different model that could sit between the M6 Pro and the M8 in GAC’s lineup.
Based on early details, the E8 Hybrid could share the same powertrain used in the Emkoo Hybrid. It’s expected to have a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a 1.8 kWh battery, producing a combined output of 235 hp and 300 Nm of torque. This setup provides both fuel savings and the added power of a hybrid system.
Inside, the E8 could offer a more premium layout compared to the M6 Pro. It might come with captain’s chairs in the second row, and in other markets, there’s even a four-seater version similar to luxury MPVs like the Lexus LM. Other possible features include a panoramic glass roof, leather seats, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, a power tailgate, and driver-assist safety systems.
If GAC decides to introduce the E8 locally, it could be a more affordable alternative to the M8, while still offering hybrid benefits like number coding exemption and better fuel efficiency.
There’s no official confirmation yet from GAC Motor Philippines about the E8’s launch date, but if this new filing is any indication, the brand could be preparing to bring it to showrooms by 2026.
