Hyundai IONIQ 5 Handover Ceremony

Just recently, the local government of Makati took delivery of a fleet of Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc.'s (HMPH) flagship electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5. Five standard range units painted in Phantom Black Pearl were chosen for deployment as response vehicles, contributing to ensuring the safety of the city's residents and visitors.

The ceremony for the handover took place at the Open Grounds of Makati City Hall on January 18, 2024. Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) executives, including Mr. Dongwook Kim, Executive Vice President of the Strategy Planning Division, and Mr. Yongtae Kim, Vice President for Hydrogen and EV Business in the Policy Coordination Office, were present. Joining them were HMPH President, Mr. Dong Wook Lee, along with other local management members, including Mr. Cecil Capacete, Managing Director, Mr. Jae Ha Ryu, Directing Coordinator for Sales and Dealer Development, and Mr. Young Uk Ko, Directing Coordinator for Aftersales.

In attendance for Makati City were elected officials and representatives led by Mayor Mar-len Abigail "Abby" Binay and Vice Mayor Monique Yazmin María "Nik" Lagdameo. Also in attendance were First Congressional District Representative Romulo “Kid” Peña, Second Congressional District Representative Luis Campos, and Atty. Michael Camiña, Head of Law and Public Safety Departments.

Since 2016, Makati has committed to transforming into a model city characterized by sustainable and resilient communities. Numerous initiatives and collaborations have emerged in pursuit of this goal. For instance, partnerships with Cisco have been forged to speed up and reinforce digitization efforts. Additionally, collaborations with the Korea International Cooperation Agency Philippines (KOICA) aim to establish and construct a public transport information and communications technology (ICT) system along with an enhanced bus service.

The culmination of these initiatives was seen when Makati achieved distinction as the exclusive finalist, representing not only the country but also the Asia Pacific region, in the esteemed 2023 World Smart Cities Awards. While this is not Makati's first time being recognized in this global competition that champions leadership and inventive concepts, the consistent acknowledgment only serves to further emphasize the progress they have made in realizing their vision.
