The Hyundai Motor Company seems to hit the nail on the head once again with their award-winning IONIQ 6 Electrified Streamliner. Building on the success of the IONIQ 5 crossover, the IONIQ 6 EV is earning multiple accolades in different categories. Hyundai has recently shared the news of the IONIQ 6 Electrified Streamliner earning the highly coveted titles of World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year.
The IONIQ 6 was selected as the winner by a panel of 100 automotive journalists from 32 different countries, who had to choose from a pool of three finalists, all of which were vehicles launched in 2022. This marks Hyundai's second consecutive victory in three categories at the World Car Awards, as the jury had bestowed the same titles upon the IONIQ 5 last year.
Hyundai's IONIQ 6 is part of the IONIQ brand, which is solely dedicated to all-electric models. It utilizes a customized Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture, allowing for ultra-fast 800-Volt charging, providing a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes, and offers a roomy interior. The IONIQ 6 boasts an incredibly low drag coefficient of 0.21, making it one of the most energy-efficient and aerodynamic electric vehicles available. According to WLTP standards, it has a range of 614 km on a single charge, and the standard 2WD model with 18-inch tires has a WLTP-rated energy consumption of 13.9 kWh per 100 km.
“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious honor two years in a row, which recognizes the tremendous talents and unrelenting efforts of everyone at Hyundai Motor Company to bring EVs like IONIQ 6 to market, this honor reinforces our commitment to be a global leader in vehicle electrification and will serve to embolden our efforts as a smart mobility solutions provider.”
In addition to the recognition given to the vehicles, the World Car Awards panel also declared the IONIQ 6’s designer, SangYup Lee as the 2023 World Car Person of the Year. He was awarded this title for his significant role in the creation of the most striking and innovative concept and production cars unveiled in 2022, such as the Hyundai IONIQ 6, the 2024 Kona, and the N Vision 74 rolling lab.
The praise for the IONIQ 6 doesn’t end there as it has garnered several renowned accolades over the last few months. It was bestowed with the title of 'Saloon of the Year' at the 2023 GQ Car Awards and was named the 'New Car of the Year' by Le Guide de l'auto. On top of all the awards the IONIQ 6 got for design and performance, the Euro NCAP rated it with a five-star safety rating and a 'Best in Class' award in the 'Large Family Car' category.
