If safety is a big deal for you when buying a car, the Hyundai IONIQ 9 might catch your attention. The Hyundai IONIQ 9, Hyundai’s largest electric SUV with three rows of seats, has earned the highest possible five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). This keeps the strong safety record of Hyundai’s IONIQ lineup, which already includes the five-star-rated IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6.
Euro NCAP is Europe’s most trusted independent car safety testing group. It checks new cars in four main areas: protection for adults inside the car, protection for children, protection for pedestrians and cyclists, and the performance of driver-assist systems. The IONIQ 9 scored well in all four.
Child protection was one of the SUV’s strongest areas, with an 87 percent score. It performed well in crash tests, including frontal and side impacts, protecting the head, chest, and legs of six- and ten-year-old dummies. Adult protection earned 84 percent, safety assist systems 83 percent, and protection for pedestrians and cyclists 77 percent.
The IONIQ 9 comes with Hyundai SmartSense, a standard set of driver-assist and safety technologies. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Highway Driving Assist 2, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, and Driver Attention Warning. It also features Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, seat belt pre-tensioners for all rows, an active bonnet to help protect pedestrians, and more safety layers to prevent and reduce accidents.
Even Hyundai’s entry-level electric SUV comes with strong safety results. The Hyundai INSTER, a compact A-segment EV, recently earned a four-star score in Euro NCAP’s latest tests. It got 70 percent for adult protection, 81 percent for child protection, 70 percent for pedestrians and cyclists, and 67 percent for safety assist. The INSTER also carries Hyundai SmartSense features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Safe Exit Warning.
Euro NCAP has been testing car safety since 1997, helping buyers know how well vehicles protect both passengers and pedestrians outside. With the IONIQ 9 now joining the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 in getting five-star ratings, Hyundai shows that safety is standard across its electric vehicles.
