Last year, Hyundai got the world dreaming of a new sports coupe to hit the market with their N Vision 74 Concept. Who would blame people for craving the concept car though? Hailed as one of their most striking designs in recent years, this vehicle is a homage to the Pony Coupe, a car designed by none other than the great Giorgetto Giugiaro. The concept car looked sleek, it looked fast, and it was conceptualized to feature Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell technology, making it an environmentally friendly car as well.
Flash forward to today and Hyundai has given us a reason to stop waiting, and sadly, it’s not because the N Vision 74 Concept will enter production. Rumors of a production version of the N Vision 74 concept floated on the internet for some time since its unveiling. These rumors blew up and gained a considerable amount of traction when the South Korean publication Money Today reported that Hyundai Motors will unveil the production plans for the concept car on May 27, 2023, at a scheduled event titled “Pony Day” in Seoul Korea.
Following up on the rumors and to once and for all get a concrete answer, Korean publication Wikitree contacted Hyundai regarding the N Vision 74 rumor, to which the company promptly responded, dismissing it and stating that they have no intentions to proceed with the production of the concept car.
In addition, the automaker has explicitly denied any plans to host a "Pony Day" event, where the speculated debut of the road-ready version was rumored to take place. Hyundai also reached out to automotive media outlets such as Carscoops and Motor1 confirming that the N Vision 74 concept is a one-off with no plans for mass production in the future. Now that its future has been confirmed, we can now stop speculating about the N Vision 74 concept, it was fun while it lasted.
Amidst all of this, there is a glimmer of hope for those who wanted a modern take on a retro car as Hyundai plans to introduce a contemporary rendition of the iconic 1974 Pony Coupe. This revival follows the footsteps of the road-ready Pony, the pioneering mass-produced vehicle of South Korea from the 1970s, which underwent an electric transformation in April 2021. However, like the N Vision 74 concept, the modern Pony Coupe Hyundai will remain as a concept only.
