Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are dominating the market right now and Hyundai is keen on capitalizing on the market pull SUVs have right now. With its global lineup already brimming with SUVs, Hyundai is poised to launch a new SUV. Dubbed the Exter, a new compact SUV in the automaker's global lineup has been confirmed for launch in India. Although the initial teasers only provided a glimpse of the vehicle's outline, a recent official sketch has given us a good idea about the car’s overall styling.

The front end of the Exter features H-shaped LED lights for the daytime running lights placed at the top portion of the bumper, a styling cue so distinct that we think it could be carried over to other SUVs from Hyundai in the future. A short trip down the bumper and we’ll see the actual headlights flanking the sides of the Exter’s bumper. This styling decision is to be expected as we’ve seen Hyundai take other cars in their lineup like the Creta, Stargazer, and Staria in this direction, so nothing new there. The headlights are placed inside a black trim piece wrapping the entire front bumper completing the look of the Exter’s front

The upcoming SUV's name "Exter" is chosen by Hyundai to represent outdoor adventures, travel, and leisure themes, which is appropriate given its just three letters short of the word "exterior." Though the automaker has not disclosed the vehicle's precise measurements, it is anticipated to be larger than the Casper, which is 3,595 mm long.

That’s about all we know about the Exter as aside from the sketch on Hyundai’s site, there’s no additional information like the engine, performance, and features on the Exter’s webpage. Other automotive media outlets have reported that the Exter could be built on the K1 platform, which is shared by various Hyundai models such as the Grand i10 Nios sold in India, the European spec i10, and the Casper from South Korea.

We’ll keep our fingers on the pulse about the upcoming Hyundai Exter. With SUVs being the new hot commodity, there’s a good chance that Hyundai will consider bringing this mini-crossover into the Philippines in the future.
