Hyundai has always been an early adopter in the EV scene. Its IONIQ series of cars has been around for quite some time now, and has proven its all-around capability. But there’s always been something missing from Hyundai’s lineup.
Hybrids have become all the rage in the global market, and the Philippines is no exception. Nearly all brands are dazzling Pinoy drivers with their wide selection of hybrid vehicles. From compact crossovers, minivans, and SUVs, hybrid technology is taking the automotive world by storm. And so it may come as a surprise to you that Hyundai has just now entered the hybrid space.
And what a grand entrance it was, as Hyundai Motor Philippines just unveiled not one, but two new hybrid models for the local market: the Santa Fe Hybrid and the Tucson Hybrid. These two models are extremely popular in their respective segments, and surely, given the addition of hybrid options, they’ll be an even bigger hit among enthusiasts and commuters alike. Let’s gloss over the two new models.
Starting off with the Tucson Hybrid, it’s powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an impressive power output of 235 horsepower and 367 Nm of torque—quite a lot of pep in its step. It carries a sticker price of P2.29 million.
Meanwhile, the new Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid gets the same engine—a 1.6-liter turbocharged mill paired with an electric motor. Like the Tucson, it pumps out a hefty 235 horsepower and 367 Nm of torque. The price for the Santa Fe Hybrid? A premium price tag of P3.33 million.
What do you think of the new hybrids from Hyundai? We think that it’s about time that these cars hit the market, especially now that hybrids are more popular than ever before. The question remains: will these things be able to go up against the slew of hybrids available in the Philippines? Only time will tell.
