The JAECOO J5 is launching in Cebu this August 20

Jaecoo's J5 lineup is heading to Central Visayas this week, with the brand set to give Cebuanos their first proper look at both the HEV and EV variants come August 20 at SM Seaside City Cebu. It's the next step for Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines after debuting the models in Metro Manila, and the automaker says pushing into Cebu fits its broader push to get electrified rides into the hands of buyers beyond the capital.

Buyers torn between going electric and sticking with familiar pump-and-go convenience have a middle ground in the J5 HEV. Officially tagged the J5 SHS-S, this variant pairs a turbo 1.5-liter mill good for 143 hp and 215 Nm with a beefier electric motor contributing 204 hp and 310 Nm. Combined, the setup churns out 244 hp and 295 Nm, enough to send the J5 from rest to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Despite that punch, Jaecoo claims a fuel economy figure of 23 km/L. Pair that with a 51-liter tank and a 1.83-kWh battery pack, and total range climbs past the 1,000 km mark before a fill-up is needed.

Then there's the J5 EV, aimed squarely at drivers ready to ditch gas stations altogether. Its single front-mounted motor puts down 204 hp, getting the crossover to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, just a tenth quicker than its hybrid sibling. Power comes from a CATL-sourced LFP battery rated at 58.9 kWh, good for an official range of 461 km. Interestingly, real-world testing conducted with the Automobile Association of the Philippines actually topped that number, returning 539.2 kilometers under supervised conditions.

Regardless of which powertrain buyers pick, every J5 rolls off the lot with Jaecoo's Smart Cockpit setup onboard. The system pulls together vehicle data, connectivity features, infotainment, and various driver-assist functions into one cohesive interface built around the person behind the wheel.

Following the launch event, Omoda & Jaecoo will keep the momentum going with test drives available at SM Seaside City Cebu through August 24, giving locals a chance to experience the J5 firsthand before making a decision.
