Jeep Recon EV

First announced back in 2022, Jeep has finally revealed the full production model of its latest EV, the Recon. The Recon may not be Jeep’s first foray into electric vehicles, but it is the first Jeep EV designed to pair electric power with the signature off-road prowess the brand is famous for.

Starting with power, the Recon has two electric motors that make a combined 650 hp and a monstrous 881 Nm of torque. Delivered to all four wheels, the Recon can launch itself from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds up to a top speed of 180 km/h.To put that into perspective, a V8-powered Jeep Rubicon can do that sprint in 4.5 seconds. As we mentioned earlier, the Recon has four-wheel drive and comes with the revered Jeep Trail Rated badge.

Supplying the two electric motors is a sizable 100.5-kWh battery pack, giving the initial Moab trim an estimated 370 km of electric range per charge. Future versions are expected to push that figure to around 402 km.

Size-wise, the Recon stretches roughly 127 mm longer than a four-door Wrangler, yet its wheelbase is 152 mm shorter. At 2,772 kg, the EV carries considerably more mass and a bit more width, though the two stand nearly eye to eye. The Wrangler still edges out the Recon in cargo capacity.

The rear electric motor packs a 15:1 final-drive ratio for a stronger punch off the line and comes paired with an electric locking differential. Up front, the motor uses an 11:1 ratio and an open differential. Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system in the Moab trim layers on five drive modes, including a purpose-built Rock setting for the tough stuff.

In terms of design, the Recon carries the Jeep DNA in every corner. Up front, the seven-slot grille takes its rightful place, flanked by square headlights with U-shaped daytime running lights. Below them is a chunky black bumper with red recovery hooks, giving the Recon a handsome look with the off-road character to match.

Like the Wrangler, the Recon lets you remove the doors, which include modular cargo panels that can be swapped out as needed. You can also take off the swing-gate glass and the rear quarter windows. A dual-pane sunroof comes standard, while Jeep’s Sky One-Touch Power Top is available for those who want true open-air driving. With the second-row seats folded, the Recon provides up to 1,867 liters of cargo capacity. The front trunk adds another 85 liters, sized specifically to hold a standard carry-on suitcase.

Inside, the Recon is equipped with two vertically oriented displays: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment screen. Physical buttons are mostly absent, with the vehicle relying on digital controls for the HVAC system. A premium Alpine audio setup, including under-seat speakers, rounds out the cabin.

Here in the Philippines, Jeep currently sells the Gladiator, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee. With the Recon's production set to begin next year, we’re hoping Jeep Philippines will make room for an electric off-roader in its lineup.
