It hasn’t been that long, but the EV5 is already proving itself overseas, especially in Australia. The Kia EV5 is quickly becoming a popular choice in other markets. Since arriving in Australia late last year, it has already sold over 1,100 units in just three months. That kind of number puts it ahead of other EVs from known brands, showing that Kia’s latest electric SUV has a strong pull.
The EV5 was first shown in China back in 2023 and launched soon after. It’s a midsize electric SUV with a clean, modern look. It’s slightly smaller than the Tesla Model Y but still spacious enough for everyday use. Depending on the market, it comes with either a 60.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh battery, with a driving range of up to 500 kilometers. It also comes with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options.
In Australia, the EV5 starts at 56,770 AUD, which is about P2.1 million, which is similar to what other premium EVs cost in the Philippines, making it a possible option if Kia decides to bring it here. Kia Australia is planning to sell around 400 to 500 units of the EV5 each month. Together with the smaller EV3, the brand hopes these new EVs will help increase their total electric vehicle sales in the country. The EV5’s early success already helped Kia sell more than 200,000 vehicles in China for the first time in four years, which shows its strong potential in other countries.
While the EV5 won’t be sold in the U.S., it is launching in Canada, Mexico, and South Korea. It will even support Tesla’s charging system in Canada. With exports already reaching over 70 countries, including Southeast Asia, the chances of it arriving in the Philippines don’t seem far off.
There’s still no official word from Kia Philippines, but with more people now open to electric vehicles, the EV5 could be a good next step, especially for buyers looking for a new, all-electric SUV that offers value, space, and decent driving range.
