Kia Corporation unveiled a sweeping five-year growth strategy at its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, setting its sights on 4.13 million annual vehicle sales and a 4.5 percent global market share by 2030. The event, which reviewed five years of progress since Kia's brand relaunch in 2021, also laid out a detailed roadmap spanning electric vehicles, autonomous driving, robotics, and manufacturing innovation.
At the heart of the plan is a full-throttle push into electrification. Kia aims to sell 1 million electric vehicles by 2030, expanding its EV lineup from 11 to 14 models spanning two passenger vehicles, nine SUVs, and three Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) models. A next-generation EV platform is in development, promising up to a 40 percent increase in battery capacity, a nine percent improvement in motor output, and fifth-generation batteries delivering up to 15 percent higher energy density. The company is also broadening its charging infrastructure, having already secured access to approximately 240,000 chargers in North America and 1 million across Europe.
Hybrids are equally central to the strategy. Kia is targeting 1.1 million HEV sales per year by 2030 through a 13-model lineup — nearly double the 690,000 units projected for 2026. The company has also introduced premium EV-level features such as Stay Mode and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality in its hybrid models, and recently achieved fuel efficiency and output improvements of over four percent through a next-generation hybrid system. A new Body-on-Frame pickup truck with HEV and EREV variants is planned for North American markets by 2030.
“Building on the achievements of innovation across all areas over the past five years —including brand, EVs, PBVs, and ESG — EVs, HEVs, autonomous driving, and robotics will serve as key drivers for Kia’s fastest growth to date. Even amid the evolving global environment, Kia will proactively respond to changing market conditions through differentiated strategies.”
Looking further ahead, Kia plans to complete its first software-defined vehicle by the end of 2027, integrating Level 2+ highway autonomous driving, with Level 2++ urban driving capability arriving in early 2029 via a data partnership with NVIDIA. On the robotics front, Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid robot will begin full-scale deployment at Hyundai's Metaplant America facility in 2028, expanding to Kia AutoLand Georgia in 2029.
To fund the entire transformation, Kia plans to invest 49 trillion KRW over five years, with 21 trillion KRW dedicated to future growth areas. By 2030, the company is targeting 170 trillion KRW in revenue and a 10 percent operating profit margin. For 2026 alone, Kia projects revenue of 122.3 trillion KRW and operating profit of 10.2 trillion KRW— a 12.4 percent year-on-year increase.
Kia’s 2030 blueprint could be taken as a declaration of the brand’s intent moving forward. Spanning EVs, hybrids, autonomous driving, robotics, and an entirely new commercial vehicle segment, the roadmap is one of the most comprehensive strategic overhauls any automaker has announced in recent memory. How this plays out, however, is dependent on many factors at play over the next few years — and we'll have to wait and see what comes of it.
