Yesterday, AC Motors, the official distributor of Kia, held the official launch of the refreshed 2024 Seltos. The updated version of Kia’s premium subcompact crossover not only sports a more futuristic exterior design but also showcases a technologically advanced and feature-rich interior. New looks, new features, and new engines were the highlights of the 2024 Seltos’ launch, but the good news from Kia did not end there.
2024 will be a busy year for Kia as the brand intends to bring in a bunch of new cars into the Philippines. To get us all excited about these new cars, they have told us outright what one of those cars will be. The car in question is the EV5, an all-electric compact crossover that slots between the EV6, which we already have, and the larger EV9.
AC Motors' chief, Toti Zara, was the one who broke the news that the debut of the Kia EV5 EV SUV is scheduled for 2024 in the country. While no additional details have been confirmed beyond its launch, we have a good idea of the EV5’s features based on countries that got first dibs on the SUV.
Starting with the battery packs, markets that already have the EV5 available have a choice between two battery options – a 64 kWh BYD Blade battery or a larger 88 kWh battery pack built with a combination of Nickel, Manganese, and Cobalt metals.
The standard model features a single electric motor delivering 212 hp and an estimated range of 530 km on a full charge. In contrast, the long-range edition, equipped with an 88 kWh battery, boasts an impressive range of up to 720 km. Lastly, the dual-motor AWD variant, generating 304 hp, offers an estimated range of approximately 650 km.
Inside, the EV5 has a futuristic design with a clean and minimalistic design. Though the production version of the interior is a far cry from the pictures we’ve seen from the EV5 concept, Kia’s electric crossover can still make you feel like you’ve stepped into an advanced age.
The exact specifications and pricing details will be revealed to us during the official launch in the Philippines. Until that time comes, we’ll wait until more information comes out.
