Kia Philippines announced the imminent arrival of the Kia EV6. Unveiled last year, we’ve been patiently waiting for the model to finally be available. Kia hasn’t divulged why the new electric vehicle had to wait so long since its unveiling to get a launch but after a few close encounters with the car, and after a bit of familiarization with its technologies, it seems that Kia thinks we’re finally ready for the model.
Next month, on March 21, 2023, we will finally get pricing details and availability details on the new Kia EV6. The model will mark the first time ever that the South Korean brand in the country will carry an electric model. From what we’ve seen, the lineup will only include one decked-out top-spec trim, the GT-Line Long Range. The “GT-Line” basically means that it’s fully equipped with pretty much all the features you can want, and “Long Range” means that the model can go over 500 kilometers on a single full charge.
The battery pack that is to be used in the EV6 includes a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery that will drive the rear wheels and develop up to 225 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The reported range of this pack and the powertrain is stated to be 528 km, and the EV6 can also support AC charging systems with its Type II charging port. Charging times can be as fast as 7 hours and 20 minutes on an 11kW AC system from 10 percent to 100 percent. Fast-charging DC systems, however, can see the battery level go from 10 percent to 80 percent at a 50 kW of charging rate in just 73 minutes. The fastest chargers will be able to top up the EV6 from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes via a 350 kW DC charging system.
On top of the powertrain, you can expect a properly equipped premium model from the Kia brand. For features, you can expect screens everywhere, with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The radio outputs to a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, which is another premium-level addition. Of course, you can also expect other driving safety features like adaptive cruise control, and a host of other safety features knowing that it’s got the GT-Line package from Kia.
When we first asked Kia Philippines about the price of the Kia EV6, the initial price that was thrown out was in the P4,000,000 range. However, it’ll be interesting to see if Kia Philippines has already factored in Executive Order No. 12 with the price. Whether the model’s price has been affected by the Executive Order remains to be seen but we cannot wait to start seeing and hopefully get to review the EV6 sometime soon.
