Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining momentum in the Philippines, with more consumers recognizing the benefits of switching to greener mobility. As the government pushes for a more sustainable transportation future, major automakers are stepping up with new EV models. Kia, an early player in the country's EV market with the launch of the EV6, continues to lead the charge with its latest offering—the Kia EV9, a bold entry into the premium electric SUV segment.
The Kia EV9 isn’t just another electric vehicle; it’s a statement. Equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, the EV9 generates an impressive 283 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque. It offers a driving range of up to 482 km on a single charge, making it a solid choice for longer journeys. The EV9 also features fast-charging capabilities, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes. Tech-wise, the SUV is loaded with a 31.2 cm dual display, advanced driver assistance systems, and over-the-air updates that keep its software fresh and up to date.
Inside, the EV9 showcases a minimalist, modern design with a focus on sustainability. Kia uses eco-friendly materials throughout the cabin, and the interior space is a key highlight. With seating for up to seven passengers and a flat floor that enhances legroom, the EV9 delivers comfort and practicality. Even the third row offers ample space, making it a true family-friendly SUV while still offering the luxury experience expected of a premium model.
In terms of styling, the EV9 is futuristic and bold. Its angular lines and geometric design set it apart from more traditional SUVs. Kia's "Digital Tiger Face" at the front replaces a conventional grille with an illuminated panel, giving it a distinct appearance. The overall aesthetic is both forward-thinking and rugged, perfectly balancing innovation with the commanding presence you expect from an SUV.
The Kia EV9 GT Line variant is priced at ₱5,888,000, positioning it squarely in the premium SUV category. Along with the price tag comes Kia's 5-year vehicle warranty and an additional 8-year warranty covering the motor and battery, providing peace of mind for long-term ownership.
With the launch of the EV9, Kia's local distributor, AC Motors, is also making strides in EV infrastructure. AC Mobility is ramping up efforts to increase the number of fast-charging stations across the country, addressing concerns about range anxiety. This move will benefit not only EV9 owners but also help foster greater adoption of electric vehicles as charging convenience improves across the Philippines.
The Kia EV9 marks a significant shift in the local automotive landscape, representing the growing demand for premium electric vehicles. With the support of expanding infrastructure, the Philippines is on track to becoming a key player in the regional EV market.
