We’ve been wondering what Lynk & Co was planning after teasing the 08 EMP at MIAS, and now we might have a clue. Lynk & Co may actually be getting ready to expand its hybrid lineup in the Philippines. After bringing the 02 EV to the 2024 Manila International Auto Show, the brand also gave a quick preview of the bigger 08 crossover. At the time, no details were shared about the 08, but it looks like more info is now confirmed. The Department of Energy has listed the 08 EMP in its official database, naming it a plug-in hybrid model, as reported by AutoIndustriya.
The 08 EMP will join the Lynk & Co 01 PHEV if launched here, and it looks to be aimed at drivers who want more space and electric range. Based on the listing, the 08 EMP is 4,820 mm long, 1,915 mm wide, and 1,685 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,848 mm and a ground clearance of 186 mm. That puts it in the midsize crossover category.
It comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, paired with two electric motors and a 39.6 kWh battery. On electric mode alone, the 08 EMP can travel up to 205 kilometers, based on WLTP estimates. When used with the engine, Lynk & Co says the total driving range can go up to 1,400 km before needing a recharge or a refill.
Power is also a strong point. In other markets, the plug-in hybrid system delivers up to 585 hp and 905 Nm of torque, giving it a level of performance that’s usually seen in larger or more expensive crossovers. With the Department of Energy now listing the 08 EMP as an official PHEV model, the chances of seeing it launched here just got higher. If it does arrive, it could become a direct rival to the likes of the BYD Tang DM-i, which is also a midsize plug-in hybrid crossover already spotted in the Philippines.
While there's no official launch date yet from United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI), the local distributor of Lynk & Co, a full launch may not be far off. The brand seems to be slowly building its presence with both EV and PHEV models, offering more choices for those looking to move into electrified driving without giving up on space and power.
