And just like that, the Mazda MX-5 has been on Philippine roads for 10 years. Mazda’s fourth-generation MX-5, known to fans as the “ND Miata,” has reached its 10th year in the Philippines. First launched in 2015, it was made to have the look of a classic roadster with Mazda’s “Jinba-Ittai” philosophy to make the car feel like an extension of the driver. With its lightweight, balanced handling, and open-top design, the MX-5 offers an easy and enjoyable driving experience for both new and experienced drivers.
As of June 2025, 1,563 units have been sold locally, making it the best-selling MX-5 generation in the country. Sales are split almost evenly between the Soft Top and Retractable Fastback versions. The Philippines is now the leading market for the MX-5 in Asia outside of Japan. In 2023, the model saw its best sales year yet with 205 units sold. Based on first-half data, 2025 is shaping up to be another strong year for the two-seater.
Over the years, Mazda Philippines has released several special and limited editions of the MX-5. These include the 30th, 35th, and 100th Anniversary Editions, as well as local exclusives like the Miata Club of the Philippines 25th Anniversary Edition and the Miata Cup 23rd Anniversary Edition.
Recent updates in 2024 brought in track-focused features such as Kinematic Posture Control, Dynamic Stability Control with Track Mode, and an Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential. These join the MX-5’s core setup of a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine producing 184 PS, paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Mazda Philippines has also built a strong community around the MX-5 through club activities, motorsport events, and organized drives. President Steven Tan says the MX-5 remains one of Mazda’s most iconic models, offering driving fun both on the road and on the track.
Who would’ve thought it’s already been a decade since the MX-5 first rolled into the Philippines? It’s been a decade of weekend drives, track days, and loyal fans.
