A new BT-50 is available in the lineup, and it’s Mazda Philippines’ special Black Edition. Available in a 4x2 AT trim level, the BT-50 Black Edition had a quiet launch, ready and waiting for owners that appreciate the stealthy and de-chromed look.
The new edition is essentially a BT-50 4x2 AT with special trim pieces. The Black Edition is identical in terms of specifications and features to the standard 4x2 model in the lineup but it’s priced at P1,430,000. The trim pieces are factory-installed, and the kit includes a glossy black grille, new 17-inch alloy wheels in gloss black, and other touches that complete the monotone look.
You’ll still get the KODO: Soul of Motion design language that popularized the BT-50, and the interior is also in keeping with Mazda’s premium positioning in th mainstream market. As for the other specifications and features, LED headlights up front, the 10-inch infotainment system inside, and all of the great bits that we appreciated with the standard BT-50 can be found on the Black Edition.
The trim in the interior is finished in black, in keeping with the edition’s namesake. Leather is prolifically used on all the touchpoints which include the steering wheel, seats, and sidings. There are white accents that give a bit of contrast to the interior to add a little flair to the model. Mazda went a little further with a debossed “Black Edition” logo on the headrests.
Of course, the powertrain of the BT-50 is the same 3.0–liter turbo diesel motor that comes with 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
“After the launch and success of the Mazda BT-50 4x4 Pangolin Edition 2, we listened to customer feedback and decided to offer a value-oriented package for the BT-50 4x2, befitting Mazda’s premium positioning. The introduction of the Mazda BT-50 4x2 Black Edition builds on the strong foundation of our well-received pickup truck by answering the desire of pickup truck buyers who see the BT-50 as a versatile lifestyle vehicle.”
As for the available colors, the Black edition comes in Ice White, Ingot Silver Metallic, Concrete Gray Mica, Rock Gray Mica, Red Volcano, and Gun Blue Mica. You still get the standard five-year or 100,000-kilometer free service plan that Mazda provides, as well as a three-year warranty.
