Earlier this year, MG Motor Philippines hinted at plans to enter a new segment in the local market. With early 2025 seeing many brands introducing their own pickup trucks, it seemed clear that MG’s move would involve joining this competitive category. Now, we can confirm that this is indeed the case, as MG Motor Philippines has officially launched the all-new MG TRQ L.
Starting with the exterior, the MG TRQ L stretches 5,365 mm long and 1,960 mm wide, making it one of the largest contenders in the pickup truck segment. With a payload capacity of up to one ton, 1,035 kg for the manual, 1,055 kg for the automatic variant, it is built to handle both business demands and personal adventures with equal confidence.
Visually, the TRQ L follows the classic pickup formula: big, bold, and ready for action. Up front, sharp halogen projector headlights with integrated daytime running lights give it a fierce face, while a sculpted bumper wrapped in black cladding gives it a trail-ready stance. Along the sides, flared wheel arches and black alloy wheels add muscle, contrasting neatly against the bodywork. Blacked-out side mirrors with integrated turn indicators and functional side steps inject a bit of refinement, while a sports bar mounted on the bed enhances its athletic character and ties together the truck’s blacked-out accents.
Inside, the TRQ L blends toughness with modern comfort. The cabin adopts an SUV-inspired design, centered around a touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Depending on the variant, the seats are upholstered in either fabric or leather, ensuring comfort on long drives or demanding workdays. A multifunction steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, along with thoughtfully positioned air-conditioning vents, rounds out an interior that feels both functional and familiar, ready for work, play, and everything in between.
Propelling the TRQ L is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine producing 158 hp and 400 Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic.
Last but not least, on the safety side of things, standard features across both variants are dual front airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), all working together to maintain control during sudden or challenging maneuvers. The eight-speed automatic variant adds further protection with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Hill Descent Control (HDC), which help ensure stability and safety on steep slopes and rough terrain.
Both trims come equipped with a reverse camera with guidelines and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Exclusive to the automatic model are features such as smart keyless entry and a one-push start system. Also included in the kit is cruise control, standard for both the MT and AT variants.
Pricing for the MG TRQ L starts at P1,248,888 for the Comfort MT variant and P1,338,888 for the Comfort AT. For a limited time, MG is offering special introductory prices of P1,198,888 for the Comfort MT and P1,318,888 for the Comfort AT.
