MG Cyberster Philippines

Before we head straight into the holiday season, MG Philippines gave us two more things to add to our Christmas wishlists potentially. Fortunately, we’re getting the MG Cyberster and the MG One, unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2024 to get them.

The brand recently came out with a pair of EVs that are aggressively priced and MG is looking to keep the momentum going with yet another pair of dashing models. For now, the brand is only previewing these models, so we’ll be injecting a bit of speculation based on the specifications from other countries here and there.

Yes, it’s yet another crossover, but the MG One does have a few things going for it that set itself apart from the rest of the lineup. The MG One is also poised to replace the MG HS. Considering that it comes in at 4,579mm long, 1,866mm wide, and 1,866mm tall, it fits squarely into the compact crossover segment. The wheelbase is set at 2,670mm.

The massive grille at the front takes cues from the MG GT, whose mouth spans the entire length of the bumper, and the car even comes equipped with LED indicators that pulse more than blinks.

The model is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that punches out 166 hp and 250 Nm of torque mated to a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Given these figures, we can expect a peppy performance from the MG One, which is not dissimilar to the MG GT’s characteristics. The car is also built on the Sigma architecture which is the latest and greatest from SAIC Motor for its family of brands.

On the inside, the brand continues with its design language. You still get modern lines all around the car and MG’s signature dynamic styling that includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a cockpit angled towards the driver, and an overall sporty style with a touch of class all over.

Undoubtedly the model that stole the show at the preview party, the Cyberster is an all-electric model in the MG lineup and it looks stunning. The all-electric model is a soft-top convertible that is slated for the first quarter of 2024. The brand has been teasing it endlessly and after finally seeing it in person, it definitely catches the eye.

According to international sources, there are two powertrain options available, a 308 hp-capable rear-drive setup, and a 536 hp-capable all-wheel-drive setup. There are up to four liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. The estimated range of the Rear-drive variant is 520 km while the AWD gets up to 580 km on a single charge according to MG.

2024 MG Cyberster Front

While the powertrain is impressive, we cannot ignore the gorgeous metal that surrounds it. MG has fitted scissor doors on their electric sports car. The Cyberster was inspired by the MGB Roadster in the 1960s.

2024 MG Cyberster Interior

Apart from that, other sources are pointing towards premium fit and finish on the interior as well as a Bose sound system, and an advanced infotainment system that promises ‘Unreal’ graphics. A play on words, yes, because the Unreal Engine 4.0 runs on the infotainment system which houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip for that extra bit of performance in terms of in-cabin entertainment.

We’re expecting MG to make a move with these two models early next year. While we’re looking forward to capping off 2023, next year is shaping up to be quite an exciting one for MG.
