The Covenant Car Company, Inc (TCCCI), which distributes MG vehicles in the Philippines, has announced that it has passed the vaunted 10,000-unit milestone. Debuting in the Philippines in October 2018, the British-born car manufacturer managed to notch the 10k milestone in just under three years.
The feat is quite impressive for a new player in the crowded Philippine auto market, but it appears that MG isn't stopping here. MG is working toward expanding rapidly over the next several years. According to the brand's "Mission 100" corporate strategy, MG aims to widen its presence to 100 countries and achieve 1 million units in global sales by 2024.
MG currently has 37 dealerships in the country. The car company has gained ground in the Philippines through its aggressively priced models and distinctly European appeal. The vehicles in its lineup include the MG 5, MG 6, MG RX5, and MG ZS.
The MG 5 is the company's most affordable model. With a starting price of P658,888, the MG 5 is a subcompact sedan that features a clean and sporty exterior. The MG 5 is available with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that delivers 112 hp and 50 Nm of torque. Two transmission options are available, including a 5-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This subcompact also comes with an advanced 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As for safety, the MG5 is equipped with ABS, EBD, and dual airbags as standard.
The MG ZS is one of the brand's most popular models. The vehicle competes in the wildly popular subcompact crossover segment. The MG ZS features a bold design with solid character lines and chrome accents. Under the hood, this subcompact crossover has a 1.6-liter gasoline engine capable of 114 hp and 150 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Feature-wise, the ZS is fitted with an 8-inch infotainment system, keyless entry, cruise control, and a sunroof. The MG ZS has a starting price of P818,888.
