MG’s next SUV ditches curves for edges, but in a good way. MG has announced that it will officially launch the new Cyber X SUV at the Shanghai Auto Show. The launch will be the global debut of the model, which MG describes as one of its biggest updates yet.
From the first photos, the MG Cyber X features a modern boxy design with soft edges. It has the strong look of an SUV with a cleaner and more high-tech style aimed at younger drivers. Some of the standout features include full-width LED lights at the front and rear, split headlights, a lit-up MG badge, hidden door handles, and roof rails. The closed grille suggests it may be fully electric or a hybrid.
The Cyber X is one of eight new models that MG plans to launch over the next two years. These include the 2026 MG Cyberster, an updated roadster with improved features, the next-gen MG4 EV expected in 2025, two sedans using CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery tech, and two more SUVs by 2026. The model will be built on SAIC’s new E3 platform, which can be used for different types of electric cars, from small cars to bigger vehicles. The platform also supports new types of batteries that charge faster and hold more energy.
MG is also teaming up with smartphone brand OPPO for smart car features, and the Cyber X is expected to come with advanced driver-assist tech using Horizon Robotics’ J6 chip. In the first three months of 2025, MG sold over 25,000 units, a 13.1% increase from last year. March alone saw more than 10,000 units sold, an 82.6% jump. MG also plans to become the first Chinese car brand to hit 3 million overseas sales.
In Europe, the brand sold more than 24 million units in 2024 alone. To support this growth, MG plans to open 150 more stores in China this year, reaching a total of 400 outlets. We still don’t know how much the Cyber X will cost or if it’s coming to the Philippines, but we’ll find out more once it’s shown at the Shanghai Auto Show. Judging by its looks and size, it could go toe-to-toe with the D90. While waiting, feel free to browse MG’s full lineup on AutoDeal.com.ph.
