MIAS 2026: The Kia EV5 makes its official local debut

Kia’s latest offering is a fully electric compact crossover.

It’s been a good few months of waiting since Kia teased the arrival of the EV5 in the Philippines, but it's finally here, making a grand appearance at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). Here’s a breakdown of what Kia’s all-electric compact crossover brings to the table.

Starting with dimensions, the Kia EV5 measures 4,615 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,715 mm tall, putting it in direct contention with the likes of the Geely EX5 and the Toyota bZ4X. Design-wise, the EV5 draws clear inspiration from Kia's flagship, the EV9. This is most apparent at the front, which features a clean yet aggressive look characterized by sleek LED headlights and a distinctive DRL setup. Below the closed-off grille sits an air intake framed by a silver trim piece, lending it a stronger road presence.

At the sides, the EV5 rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with a geometric design not too dissimilar to those found on other EVs in Kia's lineup. Flanking those funky wheels are black plastic cladding that adds visual width and bulk to the crossover's profile. At the rear, a sleek spoiler gives the EV5 a sporty edge, while slim wraparound LED taillights add a touch of understated sophistication. The rear fascia is largely clean, save for the Kia logo, while the rear bumper is finished in a combination of black and silver plastic trim.

Powering the EV5 is a front-mounted electric motor that develops 160 kW or 214 hp with torque figures rated at 310 Nm. With that amount of power, the EV5 can finish a sprint from zero to 100 in 8.4 seconds all the way up to a top speed of 185 km/h. Supplying power is a large 88.1 kWh battery that can provide up to 550 km of driving range from a single charge.

As for features, the EV5 delivers a wide array of safety and comfort features. Starting with tech, the EV5 gets a panoramic display on the dashboard that integrates a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen plus a five-inch climate control monitor into one. The infotainment system gets Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto Connectivity along with over-the-air (OTA) update capability. Other features to note include a dual-zone automatic climate control, a heads-up display, multiple USB ports, power-adjustable seats, multiple drive modes, and more. 

Moving on to the safety equipment, features include but are not limited to, two front passenger airbags, side airbags for the front and second row, and curtain airbags. It also gets an immobilizer, a security alarm, and ISOFIX anchors.  As for driver aids, the EV5 gets the usual affair of kit, which consists of anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, and downhill brake control. This kit is then complemented by advanced driver aids for the GLS variant. These include autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane following assist, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross traffic collision avoidance, a blind spot view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and much more.
