Whenever you see the letters “GSR” chances are you will associate it with the two-door coupe form of the Mitsubishi Lancer or with the Lancer Evolution. These three letters have made themselves synonymous with performance and handling at least with a selection of vehicles from the Japanese automaker. While the Lancer is gone, the automaker seeks to continue the GSR legacy but this time with the Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

Similar to the locally available Black Series Montero Sport, the GSR version that will make its debut in Australia will come with a blacked-out exterior. It will come with a new grille, new bumper garnishes, a set of black 18-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, and a rear spoiler a well. Gone are the chrome accents as the GSR variant trades them all in for black accents.
If black isn’t your thing, the Montero Sport GSR can also be had in White Diamond. In this paint variation, the SUV gets a black-painted roof to further continue its blacked-out look despite its white paint job.

While the outside gets a refreshed blacked-out look, the interior remains the same for the SUV. it still carries over many amenities such as its dual-zone automatic climate control, full leather seats, 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with its power-adjustable front seats.
As for its safety features it too has been carried over from the standard variants of the SUV, which gives the GSR model access to features such as forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, active stability control, traction control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Power for the SUV is still delivered by a 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 179 hp and 430 Nm of torque. It still shifts via an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to either just the rear wheels or to all four.
