Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) earned top honors at the 8th Global Monozukuri Skill Competition held on October 26 at Mitsubishi Motors’ Okazaki plant in Japan. The local team took home two golds and one silver after months of preparation and training.
The competition gathers the best workers from Mitsubishi factories across different countries. This year, the Philippines sent a nine-member team who joined seven categories: welding, painting, assembly work, tooling, metal repair, electric sequence programming, and forklift operations. They competed against participants from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Three Filipino participants topped their events. Sherwin Recaido won gold in Metal Repair and Hand Skill Finishing, while Nelson Ojoy took another gold in the Forklift Pallet Handling category. Meanwhile, Mark Bagnes earned silver in CO2 Arc Welding, completing the team’s medal haul.
MMPC president and CEO Ritsu Imaeda said the win reflects the dedication and discipline of Filipino workers, especially those in manufacturing roles. He added that these results show how the country’s talent can meet global standards through skill, focus, and teamwork.
Production Strategy Manager Sergio Castro Jr. shared that the achievement is a product of the entire MMPC community’s effort. He highlighted how workers and trainers at the Santa Rosa plant helped prepare the competitors through months of focused drills and simulations that mirrored the intensity of the global event.
Training for the competition began as early as August at MMPC’s Santa Rosa facility. The participants worked with the Manufacturing Monozukuri Training Section to sharpen their techniques, timing, and precision, qualities that define the Japanese concept of Monozukuri or “craftsmanship.”
Their hard work paid off with a strong performance for the Philippines and a sense of pride for MMPC’s local workforce, who proved they can stand side by side with the best in the region. Check out Mitsubishi’s local lineup at AutoDeal.com.ph
