We might have a more intense competition in the midsize pickup truck segment soon – although it’s a bit late compared to its rivals. Well, at least, it’s almost here now. You’re looking at a teaser to the 2019 facelifted Mitsubishi Strada, or L200 Triton in some countries. Finally.
As expected based on the trend of SUVs and pickups sharing similar exterior designs, the facelifted 2019 Strada looks closely comparable to the Mitsubishi Montero Sport. You might actually mistake one if you missed seeing its bed. Apart from the Montero Sport, it also shares the Xpander’s bumper design, where you could find its headlamps that’s mistaken as fog lamps.
And, although the grille has been blacked out on the photo, we could safely assume (as it’s quite obvious) that it utilizes Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design approach. We all can observe it on the Japanese marque’s latest models; slim headlights, huge grille and fog lamps separated by two C-shape chrome accents. These all result to a bulkier front end, that’s a common observation to all other pickup trucks in the market.
There are only a few things to tackle about the teaser photo, as the truck was shown with this typical silhouette style. We can only see the upper headlight, the C-shape chrome, (barely) the bigger bumper-mounted headlamp, logo, wheels, and the pickup body shape. Judging it by spy shots scattered across the web, however, it appears that it isn’t just the fascia that’s bulkier but the entire body as well.
It seems like Mitsubishi’s been waiting for this day to come. This new Strada look is modern day-relevant and is actually a necessity for the Japanese brand to do. The news came from Thailand, where it would likely hit its debut. From then on, all we have left to do is wait until Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation hints a local launch.
