Reports are coming in of a new Ford Ranger, and we’re excited to see the new model without any camouflage. For now, while the launch date hasn’t been set yet, this is the best that we got. Spy photos from Australia have been circulating around the internet, and it appears that the midsize pickup is getting a full overhaul.
By the looks of it, the pickup is getting a new set of wheels, along with a completely new body design. It will also be the platform that Volkswagen will use for its Amarok pickup, but we’re certain that Ford will be the first to launch its halo midsize offering.
Taking a look at the pictures reveals that it will have an F-150-like front end, with headlights that are more vertically oriented. We see a full suite of LED lights for the front and rear—that addresses our concerns with the Ranger’s taillights being a bit bland. We also see that the general shape of the vehicle is the same, with beefy fenders and a rather tall stance.
It’s also worth noting that the Ford grill appears to be similar in orientation judging by the cover on the front grille. We could also see a larger grille in the front bumper, as the black portion of the cover goes all the way down to where the radiator sits. Other additions include roof rails along with a set of fog lamps that are also covered up.
We could also expect a new engine with this next generation of Rangers. As for the displacement and power figures, rumors are circulating that a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel motor could find its way on the midsize offering, Other rumors suggest that the truck could pack a punch, coming with 600 Nm of torque—100 Nm over the current 2.0-liter Biturbo in the Wildtrak, FX4 MAX and Ranger Raptor. The T6 platform has been out for more than a decade now and is in need of an update in order to compete and once again top the charts in the midsize pickup segment in the Philippines. As for a local launch, we might expect the Ranger to make landfall in 2022, perhaps in the second quarter of the year.
