The compact SUV will be made in Spain starting 2027 and is expected to use the same base as the Kuga.

The Bronco is going global, and it’s going smaller. Ford is expanding its Bronco lineup with a new compact SUV designed for the European market. The model will be produced in Valencia, Spain, starting in 2027, combining the Bronco’s familiar rugged look with hybrid power.

As reported by Carscoops, Ford plans to bring the Bronco name to Europe to strengthen its American image, similar to what it did with the Mustang, Mustang Mach-E, and Explorer EV, which have already found success among European buyers.

The new Bronco will not replace the Ford Kuga, known as the Escape in the United States, which was updated in 2024. Instead, it will sit between the Kuga and the smaller Puma, giving Ford a new option for drivers who want a compact SUV with a tougher design. Unlike the Bronco Sport sold in the U.S., the upcoming model will use the C2 platform, the same architecture used by the Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, and Maverick, but it will have its own design and features.

The SUV will keep the boxy shape and strong lines that the Bronco is known for, but it will be made for everyday driving instead of heavy off-road use. Ford aims to keep the Bronco’s bold character while making it fit Europe’s roads and lifestyle.

Under the hood, the new model is expected to feature a plug-in hybrid system, with a self-charging hybrid version also being considered. A fully electric version seems unlikely for now as Ford adjusts its EV strategy after slow sales of the Explorer EV and Capri EV.

Production will take place at Ford’s Valencia plant, which currently builds the Kuga. The company confirmed that a model with a “multi-energy” powertrain, supporting both hybrid and plug-in hybrid setups, will begin production at the site in 2027.

Once released, the new Bronco will compete with compact SUVs such as the Jeep Compass and Dacia Bigster, offering European buyers a small, rugged-style SUV with hybrid efficiency.

While this new Bronco is for Europe at the moment, there’s always a chance we’ll see it here someday. In the meantime, browse the current Bronco and Ford lineup at AutoDeal.com.ph.
