MG might not be what one could call a household name in the electric vehicle (EV) space, but that could change soon. The British-born brand has shown signs of aggressiveness with its EV plans, even going as far as promising to release the production version of the Cyberster electric roadster this year.
Now, reports have indicated that MG is preparing to launch at least one more new EV in 2022. The company's official social media accounts have come out with a teaser for what some are calling the MG 4.
The preview doesn't get into any details, but from what we've seen, the vehicle is almost definitely a crossover. Sporting a bright orange look, the new vehicle also boasts strong character lines and 17-inch alloy wheels. The teaser also shows a black roof, black plastic body cladding, and sleek taillights. We don't know exactly how big or small this new MG will be, but its length has been confirmed to be 4,300mm.
Unlike many of its current models, the MG 4 will be marketed as a UK-focused model. MG has said that it developed the vehicle with British consumers in mind. That's not to say that the new model won't launch in other markets like the Philippines, as everything is up in the air at this point.
Notably, this new EV isn't MG's first foray into electrified models. The brand currently sells theMG ZS EV andMG 5 EV in several markets. Both models are not available in the country, however. Still, the company's steady expansion into EVs is an encouraging sign that it's ready to offer all-electric models in emerging markets.
For now, Philippine customers will have to settle for MG's gas-powered offerings, like the ZS T. It's a formidable crossover in its own right, coming equipped with a capable 1.3-liter turbocharged engine and plenty of modern features. The ZS T also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a massive panoramic sunroof, a 10-inch touchscreen display, and a 360-degree camera. The MG ZS T is available now, starting at P1,158,888.
