Nissan Philippines has recently announced that they will be closing its local production factory in Santa Rosa Laguna. The old Nissan Almera will no longer be made in the Philippines while the new model will be produced in Thailand.
A few days after the announcement of the Sta. Rosa plant's closure, a viewer was able to snap a picture of the new Nissan Almera making its way through where we assume is SLEX.
At first glance you may think that a Tesla Model S was making its way down south, however, if you look closely, a familiar grille comes up. Without a doubt it's Nissan's V-Motion grille.
Looking at the photos, we can see that the unit is well covered without any exposed badging or body panels. Even the characteristic wraparound tail lights of the new Almera are covered. A video was sent to us as well which revealed not one, but two Nissan Almeras driving in tandem with each other. Posisbly on the way to the Nissan warehouse in Laguna.
As for the specifications, we're expecting a 1.5-liter gasoline engine available with either an automatic or a manual transmission. You can expect about 98 hp and 134 Nm of torque from the Almera if it has the 1.5-liter. A slightly bigger engine option is available in other countries, namely the 1.6-liter inline-4 from the Juke that produces 115 hp and 157 Nm of torque. We're not sure if there will be another engine option available, but if our wishes were to come true, we'd hope that Nissan would bring in its 1.0-liter turbo. However, like the Honda City, which only came with a 1.5-liter engine and not Honda's 1.0-liter mill, it seems that the Almera could follow suit.
So this means that the new Nissan Almera will be upon us really soon. No word from Nissan Philippines about an official launch just yet, however. We'll keep our eyes open for more details.
