Nissan Sentra

We reported last week that the Nissan Sylphy leaked in China could be a preview of the next-generation Nissan Sentra for the U.S. market, and just a couple of days later, Nissan fully unveiled the ninth-generation Sentra.

The Sentra is now in its ninth generation and has received a major exterior overhaul compared to the B18-generation Sentra. According to Nissan, the design of the new Sentra was guided by the themes of daring, vitalizing, and resonating—and a quick look at the exterior makes that clear. The most apparent change on the Sentra’s exterior is the sleeker and more aggressive front fascia, characterized by the V-motion grille, with sharp lines extending from the bumper all the way to the headlights.

The sharp theme continues in the rear, where Nissan designed the Sentra with a sloping roofline, a short deck, and uniquely shaped rear fenders. All these changes, according to Nissan, help manage airflow to reduce the vehicle’s wake. The rear of the Sentra is capped off by a pair of LED taillights connected by a slim LED light bar in the middle. At the sides, the Sentra will be offered with three wheel options—16, 17, or 18 inches—all with distinct designs.

Nissan Sentra Interior

Inside, the Sentra features a modern and sporty cabin, with the featured SR variant sporting a black interior with red contrast stitching on the seats and the dashboard. The kit featured in the Sentra includes dual 12.3-inch displays serving as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard. Other features include a touch-sensitive climate control panel, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, multiple USB-C charging ports, and a funky two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. Other highlights include a wireless charging pad, LED ambient lighting, a power sunroof, and a 360-degree camera system.

For safety, the Sentra introduces a new system called Blind-Spot Intervention, which actively intervenes if the driver tries to change lanes while another vehicle is in their blind spot. The rest of Nissan’s intelligent driver-assist suite includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure prevention, and high-beam assist. Adding to that, all U.S.-spec Sentras now come standard with 10 airbags.

Under the hood, the 2.0-liter MR20DD naturally aspirated inline-four carries over, producing 149 hp and 198 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through an upgraded Xtronic CVT that Nissan claims provides smoother, more natural acceleration.

All that sounds well and good, but the reality is that it’s been a while since the Sentra was last sold in the Philippines. With the new generation now out in the U.S., could the Sentra name be making a comeback here? We certainly hope so. For now, you can check out the Nissan Car Guide on AutoDeal.com.ph.
