Suzuki has just unveiled the fourth-generation Dzire in India, showcasing a refreshed design, upgraded features, and advanced technology. In addition to its stylish new appearance, the latest Dzire has also improved a lot on the safety front, earning a full five-star rating from the Global NCAP.
Global NCAP reports that Maruti Suzuki submitted the all-new Dzire for testing, where it received high marks for structural integrity. The structure and footwell area were rated as stable, and capable of withstanding additional stress.
In tests for adult occupant protection, the driver dummy’s chest showed marginal protection in the frontal impact, while the pole test indicated full head protection. The side impact test confirmed complete protection for adult occupants.
For child occupant safety, the results were also positive. The 18-month-old dummy received full protection, while the three-year-old dummy showed good protection for the head and chest, with recommended improvements in neck protection achievable by using a rear-facing child restraint system (CRS). Side impact tests demonstrated full protection for child occupants, earning the new Dzire a four-star rating for child safety.
In comparison, its predecessor scored a measly two stars for both adult and child occupant protection. Global NCAP's report highlights that the previous-generation Dzire, while equipped with two front airbags and ESC as standard, had its structure and footwell area rated as unstable. During side impact testing, the dummy’s chest showed weak protection, and a pole test was not performed since the model lacked side head protection, even as an option.
For child occupant safety, both dummies were seated in rear-facing child restraint systems (CRS) with ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. However, the contact between the child dummies’ heads and the car's interior, along with the lack of three-point seat belts in all seating positions, contributed to the model’s low safety rating for child occupants.
With this in mind, the new generation Suzuki Dzire—with its distinctive styling, upgraded features, and improved safety—shows significant promise. Hopefully, the new Dzire will arrive in the Philippine market soon.
