2020 Nissan Ariya concept car

Nissan recently revealed the Ariya Concept – an electric vehicle concept that stands as a preview of Nissan’s future design language. The crossover EV also features the Japanese manufacturer’s very own driver assistance technology.

The Ariya Concept is being showcased at Nissan’s booth at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show. It signals the start of a new era for Nissan as the company seeks to redefine its brand philosophy for the coming years.

The concept vehicle features a spacious cabin with high-tech features on the inside. On the outside, it features a clean and sleek design as is the nature of modern electric vehicles. The concept also embodies Nissan’s vision of Intelligent Mobility with personal transportation. Nissan’s vision is one of electrification and vehicle intelligence that will offer seamless and adaptive travel experiences.

The Ariya takes design concepts first seen in the 2017 IMx concept car. It includes an electrified V-motion signature shield. While it is still a concept vehicle, its design execution could make it into production vehicles in the near feature. The vehicle itself features what Nissan calls “sleek, seamless, and sexy.” It includes wide front fenders, thin LED headlights, as well as a front grille with an illuminated Nissan emblem.

Nissan has replaced the conventional grille with what it calls a “shield.” The Japanese company calls it a 3D texture that goes beyond cosmetics but as a way to highlight the vehicle’s technology within the vehicle. On the outside, the vehicle rides on 21-inch aluminum wheels with custom Nissan tires. Thanks to its sleek roofline, it allows the vehicle to slice through the air efficiently. The exterior styling also differs from the traditional design of an SUV by having a steeply raked C-pillar.

The Ariya concept represents what Nissan has in store for its future vehicles. “It is the next stage of Nissan's future design language as we embark on a new era for the company – the next stage in our evolution,” says Yasuhiro Yamauchi, the representative executive officer of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
