The Nissan GT-R has set a new Guinness world record for the fastest drift with a speed of 304.96 km/h; dethroning the Toyota 86. The “Godzilla” broke the record during a special event held at the Fujairah International Airport in UAE.
Japanese drift champion Masato Kawabata was the man behind the wheel of the 2016 GT-R. Kawabata clinched the top spot from the former record holder Jakub Przygoński who recorded a drift speed of 217.97 km/h last 2013.
The record setting GT-R was developed with Nismo, Nissan’s motorsports and performance division.
Nissan said that the vehicle was tuned to put out 1,380 hp and all the power was delivered to the rear wheels.
The Japanese automaker added that the GT-R was tested extensively at the Fuji Speedway facility before it went for the record.
