Before the Almera became Nissan’s sole sedan offering, the brand’s lineup also included the Sentra and, later, the Sylphy for those seeking a brand-new sedan from the Japanese automaker. The Sentra name, in particular, built a loyal following—one that remains strong today, even though the model has been off the market for several years.
That’s why news of a new Sentra is genuinely exciting, as there is always hope Nissan might eventually bring it back. The reason we’re talking about it now is that the next generation of this sedan has just been leaked in China, where it is sold under the Sylphy name. The information didn’t come from an official Nissan announcement, but rather from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
In terms of dimensions, the new model grows just slightly compared to the current generation of the Sentra. The China-spec version measures 4,656 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, and 1,448 mm tall, while retaining the same 2,712 mm wheelbase. These changes make it a few millimeters longer and wider than the outgoing model, hinting at a roomier cabin and a wider footprint.
Stylistically, the sedan borrows cues from the Murano and blends them with elements from Nissan’s latest Chinese EVs, such as the N7 sedan. The result is a sharper, sportier look that aligns more closely with Nissan’s future design language.
At the rear, a full-width light bar links the taillights, complemented by a subtle, integrated ducktail spoiler for a cleaner finish. According to documents, the China-spec Sentra could also come with 16-inch alloy wheels as standard.
As for power, the Chinese-market Sylphy will be propelled by a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder developing 135 hp and 159 Nm, paired to a CVT. Engine options for other countries are still unrevealed, however.
The next-gen Sentra is still a long way from being unveiled, but we hope that once it becomes a reality, the Philippine market will be among the first to get it. For now, you can explore Nissan’s local lineup on AutoDeal.com.ph.
