The next Nissan Navara will be based on the Mitsubishi Triton and is set to launch in 2026

Here comes a fresh version of the Navara, and it looks a lot like the Mitsubishi Triton underneath. Nissan has confirmed that a new version of the Navara is coming. The current D24 model has been on sale for over ten years and is now nearing the end of its run. The new Navara will first be introduced in Australia and New Zealand on November 19. Unlike the older models, this version is based on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Triton.

This upcoming truck is one of several different Navara models being developed in other parts of the world. Even though they all carry the same name, they are not the same vehicle. The one shown in this teaser is different from the version being made for South America and China. A short video from Nissan looked back on the Navara’s history in Oceania and gave a quick look at what’s coming.

The new model will be a close match to the Mitsubishi Triton but will still include some styling details that reflect past Navaras. These may include unique LED lights, a new hood, a different grille, and a new front bumper. The unit in the teaser has a sports bar, which suggests it's a top-grade variant. Nissan is expected to offer different body types, such as single cab, dual cab, and chassis cab.

It will ride on the ladder-frame chassis introduced by Mitsubishi in 2023. Nissan says there will still be changes made to the design and handling to give the truck its own feel. The engine will likely be the same 2.4-liter turbo diesel that makes 201 horsepower, just like in the Triton. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected, which lines up with more brands offering electric-ready pickups.

Nissan also shared that there will be a Pro-4X Warrior version, made with Australian engineering company Premcar. A NISMO version is also being studied but hasn’t been confirmed yet. The new Navara will go on sale in Australia and New Zealand sometime in the first half of 2026. Since the Navara first arrived in the region in 1986, Nissan has sold more than 420,000 units. It’s still unclear if this new model will be offered in other countries.

In other places, like South America, Nissan is working on a different version of the Navara, which looks to be a refreshed model based on the current truck from 2014.

The next Navara is joining a long list of tough pickup rivals. The Toyota Hilux is getting a new version too, and the Ford Ranger still holds the top spot in Australia. It’ll also share the road with the Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, Kia Tasman, and newer names like the JAC T9, GWM Cannon Ute, MGU9, and BYD Shark.
