We have confirmation that a new crop of vehicles will be making their way into the country quite soon, with the first being the OMODA 5 crossover. The OMODA brand is part of the Chery Group, the two brands will not be connected with each other in the Philippines, instead, the OMODA brand will stand alone to deliver its vehicles in the country.
Slated for a fourth-quarter launch in 2023, the OMODA 5 will be a new addition to the compact crossover segment in the country, with an all-new design that stems from the Art in Motion design language an all-new powertrain, and all-new and all-better safety standards and tech.
The OMODA 5 brings a lot to the table in terms of design. The OMODA adopts a lot of modern lines with smoothness being the key ingredient in the design. Come 2023, it’s likely that the OMODA 5 will be poised to capture the eyes of many discerning car buyers simply with its captivating design alone.
Several elements of the OMODA 5’s design were smoothened out. The grille, light, and all the other body trimmings are all one with the overall form of the car. The grille sits flush with the front bumper and doesn’t have a frame like in current models. The rear section flaunts fastback lines, and there are subtle hints of sportiness scattered throughout the body thanks to accent colors on the mirrors, bumpers, skirts, and even on the wheels. Of course, this is not just designed for design’s sake, but it is also functional. The engineers and designers have worked hand-in-hand to also deliver a low drag coefficient with this new vehicle, which helps along with fuel efficiency apart from looking good.
The interior is also all-new for the OMODA 5. Here we see a very driver-centric cabin, with the infotainment screen sharing a panel with the all-digital gauge cluster. Stepping inside, you will also be greeted with ambient lighting all throughout, a feature that is also seen on vehicles from premium brands. The seats will also have a cooling or heating feature along with electronic adjustment for absolute convenience and comfort., and dual-zone climate control will also control the air coming into the cabin, further adding to the comfort for the occupants.
As for the engine of the OMODA 5, we can expect a 1.5-liter turbo engine to make its debut in this model. With 144 hp on tap and a maximum torque figure of 230 Nm, the OMODA 5 looks like a very promising performer in comparison to the rest of its rivals. The platform that the vehicle rides on is called the T1X platform, which provides space, long drive capability, ample ground clearance, and usable approach and departure angles. Sources are also indicating that a Battery Electric Vehicle version of the OMODA 5 will be made available. Whether or not that model will be a part of the launch later in 2023 is still to be determined. Given how the Philippines is slowly progressing with its electric infrastructure, however, it’s not unlikely that the brand is considering the prospect of letting electric models populate its lineup sometime in the near future.
Apart from that, we’re also seeing that top-spec trims of this model will receive advanced features like a high-resolution dual-screen setup, with 10.25 inches for both the infotainment panel and the gauge cluster panel. The model will also receive Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality to boot, as well as the possibility of a wireless charging pad for phones that support the feature. Remote engine start will also be a part of the equation on the OMODA 5.
