The Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is underway beginning October 3, 2022, and a portion of Meralco’s north and southbound will be closed, as announced by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“The road closure takes effect until 2028 and will cover the front section of Capitol Commons up to the corner of Shaw Boulevard… The road closure takes effect until 2028 and will cover the front section of Capitol Commons up to the corner of Shaw Boulevard… Once operational, the 33-km underground mass system will cut across eight cities in Metro Manila, passing three central business districts, and service up to 370,000 passengers daily.”
As such, the DOTr has also advised motorists to look for alternate routes during the long road closure. Public Utility Jeeps on the Meralco Avenue to Shaw Boulevard Route will be rerouted to the Captain Henry Javier St. and Danny Floro St. route.
Meanwhile, Modernized jeepneys from Meralco Avenue going Shaw Boulevard will be rerouted from Dona Julia Vargas Avenue to San Miguel Avenue.
UV Express routes from Meralco Avenue going to Shaw Boulevard will reroute from Dona Julia Vargas Avenue to San Miguel Avenue or Anda Road to Camino Verde.
Private vehicle drivers must take note that the north and southbound lanes of Meralco Avenue will be closed, but they can take any alternative route.
The plans drawn up for the MMSP will have Meralco Avenue serve as the project’s access point to the Shaw Boulevard Station. When completed, the MMSP will stretch from Valenzuela City to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City. Partial operation of the project is planned by 2025, and full operation will be set by 2027 according to the DOTr.
