After revealing the 5th generation Accent, Hyundai still seems to be on full assault as they released the design sketches of the refreshed Sonata.
The sketch, posted on an official Facebook page of Hyundai, suggests that the Sonata has a more aggressive front due to the restyled headlights and larger bumper. It is also fitted with the brand’s ‘cascading grille’, Hyundai’s signature design language. With this, the grille design of the soon to be launched Sonata shares similarities with the all-new Accent. On the other hand, the Turbo variant of the Sonata wears a honeycombed grille.
Design changes continue to be seen at the rear. You can’t help but notice the Sonata’s new taillight design, which looks sharper and more distinctive as compared to its predecessor. The sketch also hints that the vehicle could have a more prominent trunk lip spoiler. In addition, the revamped bumper is integrated with sharper character lines.
However, Hyundai has yet to release the powertrain details as well as the launch date of the new Sonata.
Hyundai Philippines is selling the current Sonata, which is available in 2 variants (GLS and GLS Premium). Both variants are powered by a 2.4L Theta II gasoline engine that delivers 178 hp and 229 Nm of torque. The GLS and GLS Premium variants are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
If the production model looks anything like the design sketches, Hyundai has a strong contender to challenge its competitors such as the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and the Nissan Altima.
For now, the waiting game begins.
