Just recently, there was a tragic accident that occurred at the Skyway Extension project in Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa City. Sadly, there were some victims during the said incident, with one person died while four others were injured. Apart from that, the supposed opening of the Skyway Extension project in Southern Metro Manila has been delayed. Therefore, instead of this year, it was then pushed to February 2021.
This delay came after the accident, with Ramon Ang, San Miguel Corp. (SMC) president and chief operating officer, expressing his apologies to the victims and families involved in this tragic encounter last Sunday. This incident was mainly caused by a crane that tipped over as it moved into position, therefore, hitting a steel girder causing it to fall on 6 vehicles.
Even with a contractor handling construction, ultimately, we are responsible for the welfare of those who were affected. I would like to personally apologize to the victims and their families, as well as to our larger community in Muntinlupa.
That said, Ramon Ang also assured that this accident shall be further investigated, to determine the root cause of this incident. More importantly, SMC and its project contractor, EEI Corporation, will make sure that even stricter safety measures are to be implemented at the project site. Ang’s statement also says that they shall find out where lapses occurred and do whatever is necessary to help make sure this kind of accident doesn’t happen again.
The said project shall seamlessly connect south to north via the Skyway System. This road holds key benefits for cars such as the reduced travel time. Unfortunately, motorists are going to have to wait longer than expected given the extended timeline of its construction that was mainly caused by the accident. Positively, SMC assures it will be providing further assistance to the victims of this tragic incident.
